Maddie | Granite Bay High Grad 2021

I don’t know much about three day eventing but Maddie taught me lots. Out of all the info she dropped the main thing that stuck out was how physically dangerous this sport is and here is Maddie this tiny 17 year old crushing the game. I didn’t get to see her in action but I did get to watch her handle a sticky situation with her horse all alone. We had a severe wind advisory the day of her senior portraits and we had to walk her horse way out under the oaks trees. The wind was literally whipping through the grove and the tress were crashing into each other making loud whistles and snapping sounds. Her Horse Ellie (Elfinwind) was on high alert and became more and more unsettled. She began to whip her back end around so it was time to get out from under the trees and I watched Maddie calmly check her shoulder into Ellies shoulder and tightly keep her walking straight as she tried to bolt away from us. She never lost composure and never let Ellie over power her. Once we got back I was like… yeah, she can fully handle this sport.
