I got to experience a special history lesson and see up close some personal effects from Sophies Native Tribe. The items she is wearing all have intricate purposes and names which I have since forgotten the bulk of those details but something really interesting will always resonate with me. Everything she is wearing cannot be touched by anybody but her (especially boys) and she put great care into adorning herself the way she was taught to and I felt particularly honored that she trusted me to photograph this special part of her culture. She showed me a few of the dances that the women in her tribe do by putting the palms of her hands together and then slowly wound her hands side to side like a rolling river… it was so simple and perfect and I could imagine her teaching it to her daughter just like her mom taught it to her.
